¿Parlez-vous europäisch?

Spotted on a sign taped to a newspaper box outside a subway station:

WANTED

EUROPEAN SPEAKING

TRANSLATOR

&

TYPIST

€

Given the absence of a hyphen between "European" and "speaking," I guess they might just be looking for a translator/typist from Europe who is not mute. But I prefer to believe that what they really want is a translator who speaks "European," whatever that may be. (It's only somewhat more unreasonable, after all, than asking for a translator who speaks "Chinese," although it's a lot more unreasonable than asking for a translator who reads and writes Chinese.) In any event, I wish them the best of luck.

I haven't really gone in for that sort of investigative reporting since my undergraduate days with the Innis Herald.

I speak several dialects of European. I imagine it's what they want...?

and BTW your user icon makes me smirk.

Quite possibly. I do wonder what counts, though, particularly with reference to European languages that are not Indo-European languages.

And thanks! I was hoping it would amuse someone.
