Unclear on the concept

Elections Ontario has been sending out fliers and putting up posters with the following slogan:

Don't let others speak for you; vote!
Ne laissez pas quelqu'un d'autre parler à votre place; votez!

The thing is, this is a parliamentary democracy. The whole point of voting in the election is to designate someone to parler à votre place. This time around, there's also a referendum, in which Ontario voters do get to speak for themselves—on the question of which method should be used to elect the MPPs who speak for them.

If you're eligible to vote in Ontario on October 10, then I hope you will choose to do so. But if you really don't want others to speak for you on matters political, then, as the saying goes, don't vote; it only encourages them.
