Any questions?

The following is freely adapted from a meme that has suddenly exploded all over my friends list:

I want everyone who reads this, and some people who don't, to ask me zero or more questions (but definitely not fewer). Ask me anything you want, but do not count on getting a straight answer. Then I want you to go to your own journal and write whatever you feel like writing, or nothing at all if that's what you prefer. Or you could just go for a walk. It's a nice day out, or at least it is here.

I'm trying to be all smart-ass and think of a way to ask less than zero questions. Is an answer equal to -1 questions?

1. What caused you to go into linguistics?
2. If you sprouted another personality, what would s/he be like?
3. If you had unlimited time on earth and decided to get a lot of bachelor's degrees, what would the next three be?
Q. Pheevrq_pheevr on 14. April, 2004 14:12 (UTC)
  1. No, it isn't. Only unasking a question (which is not the same thing as leaving a question unasked) counts as -1 question.
  2. There really ought to be an interesting story here, but there isn't. I signed up for LIN 100 as a first-year undergrad; I liked linguistics; I went on with it. I don't really remember how much I knew about linguistics before I started studying it—I know I had read some lecture notes from a course my mother took when she was in university, which were mostly about the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, but I don't know that they were really all that influential. Oh, and I really enjoyed diagramming sentences in grade five; maybe that had something to do with it.
  3. I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around this question. Possibly a blue spruce, but don't quote me on that.
  4. Computer science, drama, and English literature.

Who is the cartoon in your avatar?

Yam or sweet potato?

Emu or rhea?

  1. I am.
  2. I can never remember.
  3. Definitely emu.

because I'm contrary
I hereby state that I do *not* want to know whether the phone number I called you at last was the right one.

There I unasked a question.

A-heh-heh-heh. You're funny.

1. Would you be willing to justify your existence on national television?

2. If you had (another?) child, what would you name her/him?
Q. Pheevrq_pheevr on 14. April, 2004 17:32 (UTC)
  1. Absolutely not. I only do print media.
  2. More to the point, where would I put her/him?
w1ldc47w1ldc47 on 15. April, 2004 07:51 (UTC)
2. Under my bed.

Okay Okay
I'll bring my question count out of the negative for you:

1) Are you going to be spending any time in my hometown this summer?

2) If you had to buy a fedora for an unusually small head, where would you buy it?

3) If you were a language, what would your default word order be?

4) rice: brown or white?
