I am very pleased to note the arrival in the linguistic corner of the blogosphere of HeiDeas, a new blog by Heidi Harley. I always enjoy hearing about what's going on in Heidi's brain; a paper of hers inspired a post about acronyms here on ARC last August. Credit for driving Heidi to blogging goes to the Tensor (who said Tenser); it was the Tensor's post about how the same few languages are always cited as examples of the same typological categories that finally pushed her over the edge.

Interesting blog. Thanks for the link. Also for the Bester reference to being Demolished, sir, that I've seen in awhile. ;-)

great to be here!
thanks so much, pheever! (is this a good way to refer to you? 'q_pheever' seems too full a form of address, but just 'q' doesn't seem like enough, plus it gets interference from Ian Fleming's progeny...) Anyway, it's super nice to feel so well welcomed to the blogosphere.

also I just want to second your nomination (http://www.livejournal.com/users/q_pheevr/#item25543) of Eco for the Bulwer-Lytton prize. I have enjoyed those contest compilations a lot over several years, but that sentence of his you dissect is up there with the absolute west/burst of them.

a) forgot to sign the above -- evidently it's me, hh and
b) funny thing going on with my little html attempt there -- must be some sneaky thing to prevent spam links or something...

Hi, Heidi! As far as I know, it should be possible to post links in comments here using the <a> tag.

I haven't figured out what the best short form of my nom de joueb is, either, although in principle the Q. is short for Qnavry.
